The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Co-operation (COMSTECH) Islamabad, invites applications from OIC members states for a training workshop on “Integrating Clinical Pharmacy Education, Practice & Research: Bridging the Gap” scheduled to be held from February 22 to 24, 2016 at COMSTECH, Islamabad. The workshop focuses on recent developments and innovations in the areas of clinical pharmacy education, practice, training and research. The fundamental aim of the workshop is to share practical & evidence based experiences and cutting edge methodologies for integrating clinical pharmacy teaching, practice & research.
At the end of the workshop participants
Should be able to demonstrate and explain the basic principles and methodologies of teaching, precepting and mentoring in the area of clinical pharmacy.
Would have acquired considerable knowledge about recent developments, challenges and opportunities in the area of clinical pharmacy practice.
Would learn how to integrate teaching, practice, training and research in the area of clinical pharmacy.
Contents of the Workshop
Current Status of clinical pharmacy education in Pakistan and other OIC Member States.
Prevailing and perceived challenges and barriers to implementation & advancement of innovative clinical pharmacy practice.
Collaborative role of academic institutions and healthcare systems and organization to promote innovations that may advance clinical pharmacy education, training, practice and research.
Role of clinical pharmacists in the changing healthcare system.
Training for the younger faculty and working pharmacists in clinical set-ups and institutions or R&D organizations.
Extensive discussions / exercises for participants by experts.

PROF. DR. GUL MAJID KHAN (Meritorious Professor)
Prof. GM Khan earned B-Pharmacy, M-Phil (Pak) and PhD (China) degrees along with Three Foreign Post Doctoral Fellowships, one each from USM Malaysia, King’s College London, and Strathclyde University Glasgow. He has more than 30 years of extensive teaching and research experience with in the country and abroad in several western as well as eastern countries. Presently he is working as a full Professor and Chairman department of pharmacy, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. In administrative capacity he served as chairman of department, Dean of faculty for three consecutive tenures, Senior-most Dean of the University, Chief Proctor, Provost, Security Chief and Acting Vice Chancellor. He is amongst the founder members of developing and revising Pharm-D curricula. He organized several national and international conferences, and worked as Editor-in-Chief, Chief Editor and Member Editorial Boards of several Journals. Dr. Khan has executed and completed three developmental and 9 research projects. He is the author of two books and 150 research articles. He has supervised 8 PhD and more than 30 M-Phil Thesis. Dr. Khan remained member of university Senate, Syndicate, Selection Boards, Advanced Studies and Research Board, Affiliation Committee, Discipline Committee, Board of Trustees and Standing Committee for Framing Rules & Regulations. He is also member of Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Association, Federation International Pharmaceutics, Pakistan Pharmaceutical Association, and Central Licensing Board Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan. He is the recipient of several awards.
Prof. Dr Syed Azhar Syed Sulaiman (Malaysia)
Prof. Dr Syed Azhar Syed Sulaiman obtained his undergraduate degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia and later pursued Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Michigan USA. He worked as the Deputy Dean and later as Dean School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia from 2002 until 2012. He has actively been involved in teaching clinical pharmacy in Malaysia and various countries in Asia Pacific. He was invited by many faculties and schools of pharmacy in Iran, India, Turkey, Vietnam, China, Jordan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Mongolia, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Sudan and several other countries to teach at undergraduate and Masters level in clinical pharmacy program. He is also actively involved with various organisations within the country and abroad. Currently he is contributing in various capacities in different international organisations such as WHO consultant for Asia Pacific region, as ACCP’s Board of Director and Country Chairman, Board of Director for Asian Assciation of School of Pharmacy and country chairman for Malaysia, country representative for education chapter in FAPA, past council member for Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society. He was also the past immediate president of Malaysia Pharmacy Dean Council for Public sector universities. He has also been involved in promoting halal concepts especially halal pharmaceuticals. Recently he was the Malaysian representative for promoting halal pharmaceuticals in OIC countries. He has won numerous national and international awards such as The Most Prestigious Educator Award viz. Sanggar Sanjung Award (Nov 2015), the Best Educator Award in The Universiti Sains Malaysia and also Publications Award. In 2010, he was the winner of Ishidate Award for being the Best Pharmacy Educator in Asia Pacific, the first Muslim in the world to receive it and the first Malaysian to win such an Award. In 2011 he was declared as the Most Outstanding Pharmacist in Malaysia.
Dr. Azreen Syazril Adnan (Malaysia)
Associate Professor (Dr) Azreen Syazril Adnan is currently serving as Consultant Nephrologists and Physician in School of Medical Sciences Universiti Sains Malaysia, Head Unit of Chronic Kidney Disease Resource Center and Hemodialysis Unit Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia for the last 9 years. His areas of interests include tropical Diseases related to kidney injuries, vascular access in hemodialysis, dialysis disaster preparedness, bioinformatics and hypertension management in end stage renal failure patients. He is also Fellow of American Society Nephrology and Young Nephrologists Platform Trainer under European Dialysis Transplant Association. He recently launched Advanced Dialysis Nephrology Application Network (ADNAN) system for the management of dialysis patients during disaster. He is also currently serving as preceptor for students from the School of Pharmacy, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang and currently he is supervising 4 PhD Clinical Pharmacy students, 1 MSc and 5 Masters of Medicine Students. He had published in Cochrane Renal Review, PLOSone, BMC and Postgraduate Medical Journal.
Dr. Amer Hayat Khan PhD (Malaysia)
Dr. Amer Hayat Khan is working as Senior Lecturer in Discipline of Clinical Pharmacy, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Communicable diseases, Urology and Nephrology are the main focus of his research. Currently he is supervising 8 PhD’s (Clinical Pharmacy) and 2 post-grad students (Master in Clinical pharmacy) by Research. Dr Amer successfully supervised 8 post-grad (Master in Clinical Pharmacy) students by research work and 7 post-grad (Medical and Clinical Pharmacy) by course work. He has published more than 100 papers in reputable journals and is serving as an editorial board member of several Journals. In addition to that, Dr. Amer is the visiting staff for Chronic Kidney Disease Centre, Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia. Moreover, he is certified Good Clinical Practitioner (GCP) under Ministry of Health, Malaysia.

Dr. Tahir Aziz Mughal (Pakistan)
Muhammad Tahir is a Pharmacist, consultant, educationist and administrator. Over the past one andhalf decade, he has worked in a wide variety of professional capacities in both private and public sectors. He had done his pharmacy graduation and Master of Philosophy in Pharmacy from University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. He earned his MBA in 2009 through Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore, Pakistan. He recently completed hospital management program from Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore. Muhammad Tahir working in hospital segment for a decade and has participated in and led several projects in pharmacy, capital budgeting of hospital including development of oracle base clinical decision support system. Muhammad Tahir championed efforts to consolidate the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) Pharmacy staffed by pharmacist and technicians. He has led efforts to streamline the pharmacy operations while further equipped and developed oncology clinical pharmacy practice. His primary interest includes the pharmacy health informatics, the integrations of different healthcare modules, evaluating the hospital needs and clinical pharmacy advancements. Muhammad Tahir has several international as well as national publications in reputable pharmacy and medical journals. He also supervised couple of research with the collaboration of national pharmacy universities. He has completed many projects on pharmacy setup including hospital commissioning, cost benefit analysis hospital projects, development of pharmacy clinical decision modules in hospital information system.
Registration fee for foreign participants is US$ 50.00 and for local participants is Pak rupees 2,500.00. Full time students can avail 60% discount in the registration fee.
Local Hospitality and Travel:
COMSTECH will provide free accommodation and meals to a limited number of selected participants. Travel grants are not available. Pick and drop service on arrival and departure will be provided to only those who are travelling by air.
